Im sorry, HOW?!

I have one of those black stock coolers for a 3 3200g. Somehow this happened? It just fell off, and i thought it was weird until i saw a crack in it. Does anyone have any remote idea on how this happened. Will it still be fine without this? Im thinking of buying a new cpu soon anyway so it would only be temporary. Thanks
