SpeedyCash just threatened me with jail?
I got a weird call from a process server telling me to call an 855 number with a 6 digit case number. When I called they said they were SpeedyCash and I owed them 390$ and that I had committed fraud. They said they were garnish my wages, my household income, my bank account and I told them I didn't have a job right now, could I go to jail? They said it was very likely. I remember this loan and I remember paying on it, I guess i never paid it off, I lost my job at that time and I guess this was not a priority for me. I am not really sure how to move forward, I just thought they would ding my credit report or something, not threaten jail and my social security? They told me I had a bad attitude at the start of the call and it was just really hostile and I am not really sure how to move forward? I am pretty sure this is from 2021 so it caught me a little off guard.
EDIT UPDATE
So 24 hours later I checked my credit report and like many people told me, payday loans do not show there (I didn't know that) but I also went ahead and took some advice and called my county clerk and there is nothing on the books for me. The county clerk said the SpeedyCash has a lot of complaints and this tactic is not unusual. They said it could very well be a scam like has been suggested but they would not put it past SpeedyCash to do this. Honestly the clerk unloaded about SpeedyCash a minute. The lesson is to never ever get a payday loan. I got one 3 years ago and they are so scummy I can't tell if they are calling me or if I'm getting scammed. Basically, in December this loan will be a non issue and I paid 474$ on a 235$ loan (I checked my bank records) ... I understand I owe 390$ more but I've made my peace with God. Im good with owing SpeedyCash 390 for as long as I live :) Thank you to all the people who responded/messaged. I was honestly freaked out.
