What advice would you give Donald Trump right now?
Let's all play political strategist for a moment and give the President our suggestions. Here's mine:
His biggest problem, as I see it, is that he's moving fast and breaking things, which is fine in the tech sphere, but it's making ordinary citizens nervous. How to reassure them? Simple.
Ban using SNAP dollars to buy soft drinks. It's a simple move that will be wildly popular. (I live in a high-poverty area and even the people who get SNAP think it's ridiculous that it can be used to buy soda and junk food.)
More importantly, this change will become the "face" of Trump's reforms. It will inspire confidence in what he's doing. People will be more willing to trust him and grant him latitude going forward.
Progressives will be forced to reflexively defend soft drink purchases, which will make them look ridiculous. They'll have less credibility going forward, when they try to protest other cuts.
A simple move that would yield great results (and save taxpayers money!).
BTW, if any political strategists are reading and need a consultant, I'm available. ;)
