DOT physical

I failed my dsny cdl test. Retaking lessons now with new test likely in 3-4 weeks. I am being told what the medical with dsny doesn't matter since I failed and now need to get a DOT physical submitted asap to remove the A3 restriction from my permit/license. Is this true? What I did for medical only is good if I passed that test first time with dsny? If so can I get license first but not drive cmv without it and get it before I get hired? Any accurate info would be appreciated ty
