How I got betrayed

I (18M) proposed to a girl (same age, same school until 10th grade, but she switched schools afterward within the same city) via WhatsApp. Initially, I used to drop hints. We used to meet in our coaching and ask her how her exams went, how was mine and like this....

One day,I finally gathered the courage to confess. To my surprise, she accepted (a dream come true for me). Everything was going well, but only online, as my parents were strict about relationships, so I had to keep it a secret.

Fast forward-she never attended tuitions before, as she was doing coaching from Sky (you can guess in Hindi). However, she suddenly started attending my tuition classes. This is when things began to fall apart. Since only five months were left until our 12th board exams and NEET, I suggested that we limit our conversations and focus on our studies. But she started throwing tantrums, crying over WhatsApp, and even threatened self-harm. I was completely taken aback.

The next day, she messaged me, saying she had attempted to cut her wrist. I was absolutely terrified. Up until 10th grade, she had been good at studies, which made me like her even more-beauty with brains, or so I thought. But it turned out to be an illusion. Whenever I put my phone away to study, she would spam me with messages and even call repeatedly. Coming from a middle-class family, receiving calls in the evening raised suspicion among my parents, as I never had much social interaction beyond WhatsApp. Still, I somehow managed to keep it under wraps.

Then, one night, while I was fast asleep, she called me at 3 AM! My twin sister saw it and confronted me the next day. After a lot of pleading, she agreed to keep quiet, but the situation was becoming unbearable. Neither was she studying, nor was she letting me focus. My performance in tuition started declining-my Physics scores, which were around 150-160 out of 180, dropped to 130ish. On the other hand, she never disclosed her marks, and I never forced her to. However, one day, our teacher revealed her score-she had scored only 52 out of 180 in a Physics revision test covering just the first five chapters of Class 11. Even mediocre students had scored above 100, yet she had just 52!

I was completely shattered. A few days later, I finally told her that we needed to end things, as our relationship was becoming harmful to both of us. As expected, she started crying. I said this in the morning, and by the evening, she coldly messaged me, saying she had informed her mother about our breakup. She further threatened that her mother would call my mom and expose my "activities"-how I flirted with her, proposed to her, and so on.

My body turned ice cold. In sheer panic, I hurriedly confessed everything to my mother. My reputation at home was ruined permanently.

Later, she started apologizing (the audacity!) and even asked if we could restart things. As our conversation continued, she admitted that her mother never actually said those things-it was all a lie, a manipulation tactic to blackmail me into staying with her.

That was the moment all my feelings for her ended. She is now permanently blocked-both on WhatsApp and in my heart.
