What were the immediate effects of the abolition of slavery on the ground?

So when the emancipation proclamation was announced as well as the passage of the 13th amendment in the US constitution or when Brazil in its Lei Áurea officially abolished the institution of slavery, what did it entail in the following minutes/hours/days? How were former slaves integrated into a society? Did the governments create programs which would allow former slaves to be able to live not dependent on their former masters, teaching them technical skills instead of labor intensive agrarian work? What about families that were separated and possible compensation towards landowners for the loss of their “property”? Basically the logistics of freeing slaves on mass and integrating them to a slave less society even if only in name. Not to mention the relationship of former slaves with their masters who were viewed as “cattle” but now are equal to each other at least when it comes to the basic right of existing.
