Looking for a Cheap Geiger Counter/Scintillator to Detect Radiation in Antiques
Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some help or recommendations for finding an affordable Geiger counter or scintillator that can detect alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. I’m particularly interested in screening antiques or second-hand items that might have come from areas affected by radiation, such as Fukushima.
After some reading, it seems that having a device that can detect all types of radiation (alpha, beta, and gamma) would be ideal. I’d really appreciate any advice on reliable but budget-friendly options for this purpose, and any tips on brands or models would be awesome!
Also, I have a related question: When objects are exposed to radiation in places like Fukushima, do they actually become radioactive themselves? Or is it more that radioactive particles (like dust) stick to or get incorporated into them, making them emit radiation? I’m trying to get a better understanding of how objects can become radioactive.
Thanks in advance for your help!
