How to make the demonic ambience found on WHGTTDFT?

Specifically it shows up in borderline, the outros of die alone and inertia status, the intro/outro of all the joy in life was gone when you left, the intro of ultradespair, etc. I've tried distorting and reverbing screams and stuff but I can't really get the exact sound down. any help would be much appreciated :3
