My pelvic ultrasound included a transvaginal ultrasound but no one told me

No where in my instructions or details on my appointment was it communicated that there would be a transvaginal portion to it. It simply stated “pelvic ultrasound.” I assumed it was all external because it makes sense that you would tell someone in advance that they should expect a probe in their vagina! I made it through, and I think the surprise of it distracted me from complaining, but honestly I’m really upset that I had no heads up.

Is this normal? Does a pelvic ultrasound mean transvaginal is included too? I don’t even know who I would complain to since it was through a large hospital system and who knows who I actually spoke to or how automated their messaging system is. Is this on my provider or the imaging department?
