Is it normal to get gold straight after starting to play?

My bf and I started to play valorant together after it came out on the ps5 (it was my idea) I started playing games in general 6 months ago and he’s been playing them all his life, after we did the ranked matches to get our rank I got iron and he got gold, I know my rank is low, I told him how I thought that was a high rank to get after only playing 5 matches, like in every game he’s just naturally the best one at it, I now have over 150h on the game and he has 30h yet he’s still better than me for a long shot. I don’t mind that he’s better than me or anything like that, but I want to know if he’s naturally good cause he thinks everyone else is just bad 😭😭😭. Can you guys tell me if it’s common to get gold after just 5 matches. FYI neither of us had played or seen videos of the game prior to this.
