Travel books >>> Camp books IMO

I know it’s a relatively less popular opinion but I’m always shocked to see the (often very vocal) dislike for TNP and other traveling books. I feel the travel enables a bunch of interesting scenarios we wouldn’t have otherwise. The cats also tend to feel more feline when journeying rather than the pseudo-human beings they are in camp.

Some of my favorite scenes from are Sunbeam and Nightheart at the carnival, Lionblaze and Dovepaw with the beavers, and any scene where the travelers run across a unique animal species or weird Twoleg object. That last point is a great example of the more feline behavior I’m talking about, I’d love if the series pushed the xenofiction angle more.

Even less interesting journeys like the one in Outcast have funny scenes, at one point Bramble and Squirrel basically have to play catch with Jaypaw so they can cross a gap in the rocks.

The writing could be better of course (this applies to the camp books too, the series overall is average at best), but I’m always happy to see a travel book especially considering there’s normally only 1 or 2 of them per arc. Sometimes with the way people act you’d think every other book is travel.
