Can I start selling online without registering my business?

I am looking to create a small business online related to stationary. I am also working in a full time job. I want to understand, can i create my own website or sell on Amazon etc. without registering my business? I am just one person. Also, what are the income tax implications of this? How will these earnings reflect in my income tax statement? I don't want trouble with my full time employer.
