Fired for hospitalization

Fired for hospitalization

Is this legal? My husband faithfully worked for Amazon the past 2 years but in October of last year he got sick and was in the ICU. He has a neurological disease that prevents him from driving right now and the owner said that having my husband on the roster was costing her company too much. Then on a form I got back today, it says he was terminated for " failure to return to work after calling in sick" THE MAN WAS LITTERALLY PARALYZED and in so much pain. His job was notified of everything, they have doctors notes, his entire 7 week hospital stay information, discharge papers, medications, his diagnosis. They knew about the situation, and it's severity from day 1. They apparently don't offer short or long term disability so I asked about their policy on medical leave and hr completely disregard the question. This doesn't sit right with me. Is this normal?
