Do the waratah village Christmas lights ever come down?

Alright I'm in a heated debate with my partner, never in my life here do I remember the Christmas lights on top of Kmart and the other shops being taken down after Christmas. Where as she thinks that they get taken down each year. Am I crazy or is she?
