Cockroach Infested Apartment: Landlord Says the Issue is Fixed but I’m not Sure
We moved into a new rental. We inspected the property beforehand and didn’t see anything, I guess we weren’t actively looking for roaches, because why should that even be a thing you have to look out for. The day we moved in, I noticed 2 cockroaches and TONNES of what I thought were just ants/generic bugs in every room; turns out they are baby cockroaches (still unsure if they’re brown-banded or german roaches). We never would’ve signed the lease if we knew the property had a history with cockroaches. They did get an exterminator in quickly, but the whole thing seems sus. The exterminator won’t answer my calls or messages and only talks to the agent, who I know isn’t telling the whole truth. They already had a regular exterminator for the property so that tells me that it’s an ongoing issue. The exterminator supposedly sprayed the place with “deltamethrin cislin”, but I fear that this only kills cockroaches who come in contact with it. What about all the ones that obviously are nesting somewhere in the house? Apparently the exterminator told the agent that there’s “little to no chance of them coming back”, but I highly doubt that, after reading other people’s experiences.
Should I fight to end my lease? I’m attaching some photos/videos, if someone could help me identify them that would be great!
