Asking for a raise

More specifically, asking for a raise before your contract is up— so I found out my co-worker was making significantly more than me. We were both hired at the exact same time with the exact same experience and the exact same job responsibilities.

One year is coming up for me in August, am I out of pocket to ask for a raise before my two year contract is up? I plan on asking for exactly what my counterpart makes.
