My mom thinks Tim Walz is a Chinese asset and that we live under communist rule

Title says it all, my mom believes every conspiracy theory that the Right tells them to believe and I just feel like there’s absolutely no way to reach her. My whole life she’s had terrible politics, she was a tea party-er, she’s voted for Trump every time since 2016 - but I thought maybe this year she could be reasoned with, as she’s real weird and cagey when it comes to abortion. But as I tried to lay out the positives of Tim Walz, she hit me with the “he has ties to China and would make us a communist country”.

I tried to explain he’s a 24 year vet, a 20 year teacher, is by no means a wealthy politician and fights for the working man, I don’t really see how he’s really benefitting as an “Chinese asset” and then she proceeds to say he lied about his military service and is running on “stolen valor”. I responded Trump shows no respect for the military consistently, dodged the draft then called others stupid for not doing the same, so “stolen valor” isn’t the same when Tim actually did serve in the military. Did I receive a reasonable response? NO of course not, she commended Trump on “not lying to people” about his thoughts on the military.

SO YOU APPRECIATE SOMEONE WHO DODGED THE DRAFT AND CONTINUALLY LIES TO YOUR FACE.

How do you reach these kinds of people? Is it even possible? I tried to tell her these are lies, she doubles down and says I’m the one “who believes lies easily and is gaslit with ease”. I tried to tell her I feel like she’s in a cult and there’s nothing I can say to reach her and she just resorts to childish comebacks “well I could say the same about you, democrats are a cult too”. It’s heartbreaking, there is truly no getting through to her.

I truly feel like if I were running for any kind of democratic position, Fox News could convince her I’m getting surgery to turn myself into a lizard and that George soros personally footed the bill for my species reassignment surgery.
