If you could move anywhere (in the U.S.) where would it be?
(This isn't intended to be a political discussion. Please, if you take argument with my assertions, feel free to keep scrolling.)
My family is looking to move in the coming year, and are feeling lost about where to settle. I'd love to hear some perspectives: If you could move anywhere right now within the U.S., where would it be??
We have a young child. I am a mental health therapist and my partner is a graphic designer. We lived in Chicago for many years and are temporarily residing in Minnesota. Moving back to Chicago or permanently settling in Minnesota are still on the table, but I don't want to overlook other areas with good potential. Some things on my mind are...
- Of course 🥴 the current state of things in the U.S. - all the swirling changes, etc. We are fairly liberal. My partner is a person of color. While I don't need to live in an echo chamber, I do want to feel mostly aligned with our state/local governments and general community vibe.
- Climate change - hard to avoid the impact anywhere you go, but maybe some areas are better than others.
- Cost of living/affordability.
- Access to nature/green space.
- Education, quality of schools.
- Need to be close-ish to a major airport and city for work, and necessary travel.
Hoping for some friendly discussion ☀️ thank you!
