Best week-to-week release shows currently airing
So if you're anything like me. You miss the old joy of weekly release TV shows making certain days of the week exciting and fun to look forward to. In the age of streaming and binging. It has become a lost art on some level. At least in terms of quality television. There are still plenty of garbage weekly network tv shows, but if you're on this sub I imagine you have a more refined taste, or are at least looking to refine it further.
But there are still 2 streaming apps keeping weekly releases alive. 3 if you count HBO Max but other than House of the Dragon they really have nothing worth watching in my opinion. And thats between seasons right now so I'm getting off base here
The 2 streaming apps keeping weekly release alive is
Apple TV. This is the best app in the world right now to me. Their catalogue isn't as big as some of their competitors but the overall quality of each show is better. And it's all originals and newer stuff. They have all kinds of great stuff, and while there has been some stuff that wasn't for me. None of it seemed bad or low quality. Just not my cup of tea. If I could only keep 1 streaming app it would be this one.
Crunchyroll. This is a streaming app for anime. Yes i said it anime. If you think anime is beneath you, or not for you, or too childish. You are wrong. Anime is for everybody. I don't care if you tried it and didn't like it. You just didn't find one that you could connect with. And thats OK. There is an anime out there for everyone. You just gotta dig a little.
Anyway without further adieu, here's the best show airing on each of these apps, week to week. Both in the midst of season 2.
On Apple TV on Fridays we have Severance- the most mysterious and intriguing story I've seen since LOST. Directed by Ben Stiller. Starring Adam Scott. Here is a minor ambiguous description, there are no real spoilers thst you wont learn in the first 5 minutes but ill block it incase you wanna go in blind. >! It Is a story about a Man who works at a suspiciously mysterious company, a company who is so secretive. It requires him to get a procedure known as "Severance", so he cannot access his work memories from home, nor his home memories at work. Almost effectively giving him an alter ego. !<. Anyway. The cinematography is genius. The writing is genius. The acting is haunting. The story is so creepy and curious. And the pacing is extremely good. What is especially brilliant about it is the way it turns a mirror on our society and our relationship to corporate America as employees, by putting it through almost kind of a black mirror-ish lense. I cant say
On Crunchyroll on Saturdays we have Solo Leveling- Video Game-ish/dungeon crawler/power fantasy anime. I tried a few times to write a description here. But it's really hard to do it justice. When there's so many intangible things that make it great. From the artwork to the music to the voice acting. It's kind of one of those things you have to just see it for yourself to understand. But I have yet to hear someone who watches it say they dislike it yet. At least in real life. You know people on the internet always got something negative to say.
