Advice FJO - Federal Position
Hey all, looking for any advice with everything going on for federal employees.
I am currently working at a private company in a comfy job on the West Coast and many months ago applied for a position within the Federal government that would require me to move across the country.
After the TJO, background check, exams, and numerous other steps I received a call that my clearance was confirmed and I have wanted this job for a long time however theres alot to consider that I’m unsure of and after a few bad days I’m really losing my mind and unsure of what to do.
Everything with Elon in the news has me on edge, and would really appreciate any perspective/advice.
Things to Consider: - Won’t have the chance to reapply for the federal government until the hiring freeze ends
Elon could definitely gut my job since the role has employees on probation for a couple years
Want to make a difference and am motivated to do good work, make a difference where I can and ultimately support my country
When I make the decision, I have to move my whole life across the country, and I’m just not sure if I can consciously do that with the heightened possibility of being gutted
Pay is technically more in the federal job but when I factor the cost of living, and insurance (didn’t think federal insurance was this expensive). It isn’t a huge difference.
Finally, my current job is remote and the federal job is on-site. I know remote work is slowly disappearing but I felt an urge to make a difference and do meaningful work.
Role is also GS8 which I dont know a ton about either and am unsure how that works for wanting to promote/move up compared to a GS9 - GS11 Ladder role
RANT DONE
Thank you all, would love to hear back.
