dark ladybug-like creature that comes out after rain?

I live in the southeastern u.s. (specifically central Alabama) and have been seeing a lot of these bugs this summer. They usually travel in big groups and come out during/after rainstorms. This one followed me inside (I’ve been moving this week). Just curious since I’m a life-long resident and I’ve never encountered them before this year
