SCT/CDS is a distinct syndrome identified through research, with its own research-based diagnostic criteria. It is often conflated with common co-occurrences like ADHD-PI, depression, autism, anxiety, sleep disorders, or commonly shared symptoms like fatigue or “brain fog”—none of these represent the syndrome as a whole. The prior name, Sluggish Cognitive Tempo, was considered a misnomer—“SCT” is Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) as of 2022. It is not yet classified a DSM clinical disorder.
